La chanson « Russians » est issue du premier album solo de STING sorti en 1985, « The Dream of the Blue Turtles ». En écho à l’actualité dramatique du moment, cette chanson aux textes puissants a été revisitée dans une nouvelle version acoustique. Cette version très épurée, accompagnée par une guitare acoustique et un violoncelle, garde plus que jamais toute sa profondeur dramatique et tout son sens.
« I’ve rarely sung this song in the many years since it was written because i never thought it would be relevant again. But in the light of one man’s bloody and woefully misguided decision to invade a peacefull, unthreatening neighbor, the song is, once again, a plea for our common humanity. For the brave Ukranians fighting against this brutal tyranny, and also the many Russians who are protesting this outrage despite the threat of arrest and imprisonment, we all of us love our children.
